What kind of dentures are available?
- Conventional Dentures - Conventional dentures include American and Swiss (or European) dentures. The difference between the two is where the tooth is manufactured. The Swiss denture technique uses teeth that are flat on one side and have a cutter edge on the other side. American denture technique uses teeth that more resemble our natural teeth with tooth cusp to grind our food. Although both techniques are adequate, we have found a higher degree of success using the American technique of balanced occlusion that provides better stability and chewing ease.
- Implant Supported Dentures - Implant supported dentures are also referred to as Over Dentures. They provide mechanical retention rather than relying on gravity to hold them in. Placing artificial roots (implants) into the lower or upper jaw provides a stable attachment for the denture to hook onto.
The bottom line is...
It's not the brand of tooth that makes a beautiful smile, it's Robert's ability to listen to your needs and create the perfect look and feel for you. Robert has been creating beautiful smiles for thousands of Oregonians for many years. His goal is to make your experience easy and comfortable.
What are Immediate Dentures?
Immediate dentures are made when you have your natural teeth removed and we place the denture immediately after extraction. This is a two step process over several months.
Relined Dentures
What are Relined Dentures?
Due to changes in the tissue and bone structure of the gums, periodic relining is necessary to maintain a well fitting denture. Relining a denture is accomplished by taking a new impression of the gums and adding denture material to the gum surface of the denture.
- Hard Denture Liner - The reline material is acrylic which turns hard when processed, just like the existing denture.
- Soft Lined Denture - Soft denture liner is used instead of hard liner by adding a silicone type of material to the base of the denture, thus providing more comfort when chewing. Soft liners last approximately as long as hard liners.
When is reline necessary?
A denture needs to be relined when you begin using excessive denture adhesives. This means your denture is loose and uncomfortable to wear which indicates it is time for a reline.
Repairs
Most cracked or broken dentures can be repaired in about one hour. Broken or missing teeth can also be repaired in about an hour.
Denture Cleaning and Oral Care
Dentures should be cleaned twice daily in denture cleaner. While the dentures are being cleaned, the gums should be massaged with a soft toothbrush. Yearly checkups by a denturist are recommended to identify problems before they occur.
